Implant Supported Denture

Implant Supported Lower Denture

Many individuals who have no teeth in the lower jaw find removable dentures an economical way to restore their smiles. Yet dentures are not always so easy to wear. Sometimes they slip when you try to eat or speak. It happens more often with a lower denture, which can easily become dislodged by the tongue — a more powerful muscle than you might think.

Implant supported dentures are a type of overdenture. This is supported by implants in the patient’s gums. Traditional dentures rest on the gums and are not supported by implants in the mouth. If a patient has enough bone in the jaw for the implants, then an implant supported denture can be used. This type of denture has attachments that connect the denture to the implants.

Ball-retained dentures have a ball and socket that hold the denture in place. Every implant in the patient’s jaw has a ball attached to it. This will align with each of the sockets on the denture. A patient will be able to easily snap the denture into place or take it out at night or for cleaning.

The first step in getting lower implant retained dentures is consulting with your dentist to make certain the procedure will be right for you. Everyone’s jaws, teeth, and gums are unique, so it is possible the specialized-form of dentures will not be your best option.
